My Morning Meditation

Morning all, I haven’t been sleeping much lately. I usually get bouts of insomnia before a creative spell and then I burn myself out…

I love the creative spell but I’m trying to break the cycle because in all honesty, it gets a little exhausting.

I thought the weather looked sunny this morning so I thought I’d do some meditation in the garden to see if I could calm my mind a little.

I’ve been using the practice of meditation for many years.

I didn’t exactly grown up in an environment where it was considered the norm but I continued with it anyway. It really helped in my teens when I started to suffer with anxiety.

I also began yoga classes, which I love to practice, when I have the time. I joined meditation groups in my early twenty and eventually moved into sound healing where I started attending Gong Baths (which are an amazing experience, I would absolutely recommend).

Anyway, all these things are very similar to meditation really although meditation with a group of people, I find, is a very different experience.

Since having my daughter (she is 2 and a half) I really haven’t had much time to practice meditation and with the pandemic raging on in the UK, it really has my mind wound up and unable to rest.

I thought I’d grab my mat and do a little meditation. The sun was shinning and my daughter had a little sleep in this morning so I went in the garden and got to it.

My daughter made the cute rainbow in the background, she really loves her arts and crafts. She is so like me, it’s so cute. I can’t wait to start meditating with her.

So, what are the benefits of meditation and why do people practice it?

Well simply put, it helps to calm the mind. Without realising it we are constantly putting our mind under stress.

Whether it’s having the TV on in the background while we stare at our phones. Or driving around and concentrating on the roads, all of it is a kind of stress which creates a kind of brain fog.

If we’re not careful this can all build up in our mind and stop us from sleeping or actually distract us from putting our full potential into the task we are doing.

Meditation then is like a stress release and a moment where you can calm your mind from the pressures of life and gain calmness and perspective on situations.

Some benefits of meditation include:

  • Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations.
  • Building skills to manage your stress.
  • Increasing self-awareness.
  • Focusing on the present.
  • Reducing negative emotions.
  • Increasing imagination and creativity.
  • Increasing patience and tolerance.

Meditation takes a lot of practice but it’s really quite easy when you get the hang of it. Anyone can meditate. In fact you probably do it without realising sometimes like when you’re in the bath or when your listening to music.

It’s all about calming the mind.

My Vintage Mini Skirt

It’s my birthday soon, so I thought I’d buy myself something new, I saw this cute skirt and I just had to get it.

It’s from Cherrypape. I thought it was Gorgeous and it’s a mini skirt, so you know, hello 60’s…. It’s so my style.

Plus, I like Mini Skirts because I’m short (5 ft 2) and curvy so they make my legs look a little longer. At least I hope they do, ha!

I got this cute skirt in a dragon print. Dragons are lucky after all…

Cherrypape are a fun and vintage style clothing brand. They use colours that pop and sell both stylish dresses and comfy clothes like tye-dye tracksuits.

I am absolutely lusting after their coats at the moment. It’s my birthday soon so who knows, maybe my little dragons will bring me some luck…
