5 Ways to stay Super Positive with Affirmations

Affirmations are a bit of a buzzword at the moment, they seem to be everywhere, but what are affirmations and why have they become so popular?

The power of positive thinking has long been associated with success in business. It’s no secret that the businesses that have truly believed in success are ultimately the ones that succeed. So why has this mentality now trickled into mainstream thinking and why have affirmations kind of exploded onto the scene?

Well, in short, it’s because they work. Something affirmations are awesome for at and good at is retraining thought patterns. For example how we think about ourselves, finances, relationships and even the day ahead.

If you want to break down affirmations, there are two types:

  1. The Negative self doub kind – e.g. ‘I can’t do this’, ‘I’m so unorganised’, ‘I’m always late.’ These are also known as limiting self beliefs.
  2. The Positive kind – e.g. ‘I am going to suceed.’ These are powerful postive affirmations to reinforce healthy thinking.

Depending on what you decide to tune into your thoughts can either encourage you or they can hold you back from achieving your goals in life.

Positive affirmations can boost your confidence and give you the drive to succeed, remain positive or even reduce anxiety.

How many of us have been cast into doubt about ourselves and who we are, limiting self-beliefs are a challenge for everyone. Affirmations are tool you can use to identify and shake off those thoughts in order to achieve what you’ve always wanted.

If you’re the type of person who carries the past with you, which is so easy to do so, believe me I know. Positive affirmations help to cement positive belief systems within and prevent us from slipping back into toxic patterns such as self-doubt.

The proof is in the Affirmation

Just over a year ago, I started my blog ‘Starting Today’ I had no direction or vision really, just an urge to write to share my journey with confidence (something I really struggled with earlier on in life) with the hope of inspiring and helping someone out there with that was going through the same kinda thing.

I wanted to show someone that it was okay to not feel confident and that you can change that path. Eventually, things will get easier and you can be confident. I wrote my first post called ‘finding your confidence’, unaware that it was about to take me on a total- Dorthy in Kansas journey.

I was quite lucky to write a piece that did so well initially, it’s still one of the best posts I have written in terms of traffic.

Little did I know at the time it would be the start of my blogging journey and that a year later I’d still be here, blogging away, building confidence in others and talking about wellness.

In my post, I talked about having a Mantra. Something I told myself every day, morning and night which eventually changed my world.

It was here that I started to look into affirmations, the power of visualisation and how the power of positive thinking can really transform your life.

So today I’m sharing 5 ways you can stay super positive with Affirmations…

5 Ways to use Affirmations…

1. Get a Deck of Affirmation Cards

I love this cute pack of cards by Mal Paper, check out their store here.

They have a range of goal planners with empowering affirmations and affirmation decks. I’m really enjoying taking these out when I’m out and about for a coffee. It’s therapeutic shuffling these and reading the affirmations I pull out.

This affirmation deck is perfect to pop in your pocket and take with you. They recommended you chose one a day and write it down, but I much prefer reading a few a day. The life of a blogger changes from day to day so I like I can take these with me.

2. Meditate and Mantra

If you’re lucky enough to find some peace in the day, I know it’s difficult, I’m a single mother with two kids, I’m lucky to get a bath at the best of times. Still, mediation is such a powerful and calming practice that can truly benefit your life.

After just 15 minutes of meditation your body is relaxed, your mind is calm and anxiety is reduced. It maintains a sounder sleep and can even help with stomach problems.

Imagine repeating an affirmation after your mediation session. You are in a calmer state so your affirmations will have more of an impact. Write down an affirmation before your meditation practice and take five more minutes to repeat it out loud.

3. Listen to affirmations in the bath

So a while back I started to listen to podcasts in the bath. Don’t ask me why, I suppose it was literally the only spare time I had to myself.

If I wasn’t studying social media, promoting my blog or writing content, I was busy being a mother of a teenager and a three-year-old. I was juggling GCSEs- and toilet training, tantrums and my own business. Yikes!

Anyway, I found the only me time I had was in the bath so I started listening to inspirational podcasts on anything from finance to business to routine. Read my post on spiritual bath recipes here.

Eventually, though I started recording affirmations on my phone. Partly because my phone is where I manage my business from and it’s always in my hand and partly because affirmations are more powerful when you say them out loud.

I started to play my affirmations back that I’d recorded throughout the day when I was in the bath. I’m not sure if it was the combination of calm and positive affirmations but it really helped me unwind after a busy day. It’s also so much quicker than writing them down. Bonus for busy mothers.

4. Start a Blog

Writing down, journaling or blogging your affirmations is a great way to make note of your goals, aspirations and dreams.

Someone once told me that dreams are dreams and will never be real, but goals are steps to achieving dreams and they turn dreams into reality.

Why not start a passion project of powerful affirmations and see what you can achieve?

5. Practice Affirmations Daily

Turn affirmations into a habit. Practice them every day.
