I have finally released a collection of poems, and I am so excited to be sharing this! One of my New Years Resolutions this year was to release a collection of poems and now I am so happy to announce that they are available on the amazon store. My collection is called ‘Nobody took me seriously as a poet, until I took my clothes off on Instagram.’
I wanted to write a collection inspired by mental health. Partly because it’s something I am passionate about, and partly because it was kind of true, nobody did take me seriously as a poet.
The collection is quirky and modern but focused on harder-hitting topics that I feature here on my blog. It was based on a mid-life crisis, and I wrote it to comfort, amuse and uplift readers. You can also now follow my authors page on Amazon for any future updates.
I’ve always tried to challenge stigma when it comes to mental health, this is somewhat of a passion of mine, mainly because I experienced mental illness from a young age, having a father with schizophrenia taught me that people will look at mental health differently.
I realise that there is still a lot of miss-guided information on the topic of schizophrenia. It draws up certain connotations in people’s mind that are so abhorrently wrong.
Anyway, in an aim to do my part for mental health, I decided to release a collection of my poems written over the past year or so. I wanted to explore topics like breakdowns, addiction and parental failure. Not in a negative way, in a way that could maybe open people’s minds a little to what mental illness feels like.
I wanted to keep the tone light-hearted and modern while addressing the topics that people don’t really talk about much. Mental health is not a joke, I want to make that clear, but I hope in being humorous I can comfort readers.
If you would like to purchase your copy and show support for my blog, you can purchase it here on the amazon store. It’s priced at £3.99
A little Taster…
So, I thought I’d share one of my poems in my collection of poems with some photography. It’s been a while since I posted one of these. Poetry always helps me to process my thoughts. It gives me comfort and solace during the dark times.
I wrote this poem about revenge I guess, it’s one of those dark fantasies that consumes people. It captures people and holds them captive. Revenge can take your mind to dark places, and I wanted to get that across to people.
There is no comfort in revenge, only darkness which will pull you down to the depths…
A Mermaid’s Curse…
This mermaid heart has dark desires,
A ring of embers race on the breeze,
From ghostly fires alight all night;
Hidden in the purse of the sonic blue,
A shipwreck arose in murky water,
Crashing through the reckless spray,
The blushing coal to churn the steam,
Over the scarlet scorched horizon,
An electric jolt from the middens,
Hidden in the night air like a siren,
And skin to glow pearlescent white,
To land an aura as wide as the earth,
Singing from the veil, steers the oars,
To invite this beautiful heathen aboard.
Thank you so much for reading and supporting my blog!
