The heat of summer has faded and the crispness of the fresh air sets in. A magical transformation takes place at this time of year. Autumn brings with it an array of delights that capture the senses and fill our hearts with warmth and nostalgia. From vibrant foliage to cosy evenings by the fireplace with a hot drink with spices, let’s explore the best parts of this enchanting season!

There’s nothing more Autumn-y than throwing on a pair of walking boots and exploring nature to appreciate the season. I went to Thrunton Woods this weekend, which is a great place to get away from it all. Here up in the North East of England we are blessed with nature, which is only a short drive away from Newcastle. This trail in the woods is in Northumberland. My little hike made me think about all the things I like when it comes to Autumn, so I thought I’d share…

5 Things to celebrate this Autumn

An Array of Spectacular colours

One of the most captivating aspects of autumn is the breath taking display of colours. As the leaves transition from green to hues of gold, orange, and red, landscapes transform into awe-inspiring works of art. Take a leisurely stroll through a nearby park or forest, and immerse yourself in nature’s vibrant palette. Capture the beauty through photographs or simply take a moment to revel in the ephemeral beauty that surrounds you.

The Comforting Coolness

As the temperatures drop, there is a sense of relief and comfort in the crisp autumn air. It is the perfect time to don your favourite cosy sweaters and scarves, and embrace the cooler weather. Enjoy brisk walks, invigorating hikes, or simply bask in the joy of breathing in fresh autumn air. Of course if things get too cool, you can always light a fire. Read my tutorial on how to create a stone circle fire pit and get into this season’s spirit.

All the Flavours of Fall

Autumn is a season of delectable treats and cosy flavours. Indulge in the delights of pumpkin spice, apple cider, and cinnamon-infused baked goods. Visit local farmers’ markets to revel in the harvest season’s bounty, filling your kitchen with the aroma of freshly picked apples, squash, and hearty soups. Embrace the joy of seasonal cooking and savour the tastes that autumn brings!

I like making apple and blackberry crumbles. This really sets in the Autumns vibes for me. Serve with thick lashings of custard for extra comfort. Now is also a great time to make jam and sauce with all of your harvests. If you like to garden of course, pumpkins will be growing in all shapes and sizes. Visiting a pumpkin field is a great place to go with kids and it makes for great photographs too.

The Festivals of Autumn

In the past Autumn was a time where communities would get together to celebrate their bountiful harvests. These traditions can still be found today. From apple picking festivals to corn mazes and pumpkin patches, there are endless opportunities for fun-filled experiences. Engage in hayrides, navigate through corn mazes, and enjoy activities for all ages, while immersing yourself in the spirit of the season.

This time of the year is great for exploring the countryside. There are also many events leading up to Halloween, which is of course a fun filled celebration for everyone. It is a great time to get into the spirit of community. Making crafts, exploring markets and being social are all big themes of Autumn.

Cosy Evenings

Autumn evenings are made for embracing all things cosy. As the sun sets earlier, there is something enchanting about lighting candles, wrapping yourself in a soft blanket, and gathering around a crackling fireplace. Whether you choose to curl up with a good book, watch your favourite movie, or spend quality time with loved ones, these cosy evenings offer a much-needed respite from the outside world.

I like making Smores by the fire with my kids and spending time indoors to do spooky crafts. See my post Spooktacular fun with these 15 activities the whole family can enjoy.

Reflection and Renewal

Autumn offers a time for reflection and renewed growth. As nature sheds its leaves, it reminds us of the importance of letting go and allowing ourselves to change and adapt. Take this season as an opportunity to evaluate personal goals, embrace new beginnings, and prepare for the introspective winter months ahead.

Now is a great time to bring foliage indoors and decorate the home. From sweet smelling wax melts, to candles and simmer pots. Make your home a warm and inviting place to reflect and find joy with all the things you accomplised during the Summer.

Autumn is a season filled with wonder, beauty, and the promise of new beginnings. From the vibrant colours of the changing leaves to the comforting scents and flavours, it’s a time to reconnect with nature and with ourselves. Embrace the best parts of the season and create cherished memories that will warm your heart like the flames of the fire.
